John Cena’s Final WWE Run: The GOAT’s Last Stand?

John Cena is the literal GOAT and deserves all the praise and accolades he has racked up. He started on the independent scene at UPW in California before joining WWE and spending time in OVW as The Prototype. He was called up in 2002, and in a promo with Kurt Angle, he ignited the fire that would lead to the Ruthless Aggression Era. When he moved up to the main roster, he was in the same class as Brock Lesnar, Batista, and Randy Orton.
Eventually, he would change his gimmick to the Doctor of Thuganomics after being heard freestyling backstage by Stephanie McMahon. He went on to deliver iconic and hilarious freestyle promos, roasting the roster with his sharp wit. Rocking sports jerseys, jean shorts, and a padlock and chain around his neck, Cena's look had fans copying their favorite wrestler. Apparently, they could see him—and they loved him. He was the perfect clean-cut babyface, ideal for WWE's optics. He’s been on the cover of magazines, video games, and, nowadays, movie posters. He has been involved in feuds with some of the greatest superstars to ever step into a WWE ring. This man even dropped a solo hip-hop album, You Can’t See Me, with his cousin The Trademarc. What can’t he do in the entertainment industry?
But now, we are witnessing his final run with WWE. After entering the 2025 Royal Rumble and lasting until the final two, he lost to Jey Uso. In the media scrum following the Rumble, he stated that he has done everything the company has ever asked of him, from kissing babies to working with the troops. And with the Elimination Chamber around the corner, he believes WWE owes him a spot without having to win a contender match. He still has prior commitments to filming a movie in Budapest.
And look, I’m calling it now—John Cena will surpass Ric Flair for the most title reigns. It doesn’t even have to be a long reign, and he can and will put someone over on his way out because that’s just the kind of guy he is.
